Continuing Education Information
Continuing education is an important component of any professional certification. In the rapidly changing world of healthcare, staying abreast of changes to standards and regulations is imperative. Obtaining continuing education units (CEU') can be a difficult, time consuming, and potentially expensive endeavor. CIHQ has established CE requirements for HACP that recognize this challenge.
In lieu of taking the certification examination every two years, individuals may recertify by submitting evidence of 24 CEU' in the field of healthcare accreditation and regulation. One hour of instruction or study equals one CEU. Evidence of CE must be submitted at the time of recertification on the recertification application.
The content of the CE must address areas consistent with accreditation standards and/or CMS Conditions of Participation.
CE can be obtained in the following ways:
- Through attendance at seminars, education programs, or other venues of formal instruction.
- Through self study via web-based products or modules.
- Through participation in CIHQ' complimentary continuing education program for HACP Professionals!
The HACP Continuing Education Program
HACP professionals are able to access self-study modules - free of charge – directly from the
HACP website. The modules address accreditation and regulatory requirements. Each module contains:
- Directions for completing the module and receiving CE credit
- A PowerPoint presentation
- An MP3 audio instruction file
- An on-line post-test
New modules are added to the website on a regular basis. The modules are reviewed annually and revised as necessary to assure that the information remains current and appropriate. Each module offers 1 to 1.5 CEU'. You are able to obtain the CE necessary to maintain your certification in this manner.
